Hiroshima castle
The castle was established in 1589 by one of the most powerful warlords in Japan at the time, Mori Terumoto. He fell out of favour and was sent to Hagi on the other side of the country and the castle was handed over to Fukushima Masanori of Kiyosu.
He too fell out of favour when he repaired the castle after it was damaged in floods in 1617. It was given to the Asano family and remained with them for 250 until the Meiji Restoration in 1868.
In 1945 it became the first castle to be destroyed by an atomic bomb.
